The spring is gone. MagLev replaces it with repelling magnets, which is where the fast, frictionless turning comes from. Ball-Core 3.0 carries 20 corner-to-core magnets, bringing the cube to 100 factory-installed magnets for a heavier, more locked-in feel.

Tuning is the real story here: 8 MagLev settings crossed with 8 tension settings give you 64 configurations, so you can take the cube from light and flowing to firm and controlled without ever opening it.
